Plein Air Sundays: September 14, 2008

This past Sunday I went out to Tewksbury Township, New Jersey to paint.  I tried this time to keep my chroma slightly more intense, but I kinda failed.  It was one of those days that I wasn't real happy with my results, but happy that I got out and painted.

The highlight was when the local police came to me (I was only standing twenty feet off the road), and told me I was trespassing, and if they had to come back, I would need to leave (no complaint had yet been made).  I pointed to the yellow trail markers tacked to the trees, and told them I thought this was an open trail, to which they replied that it was;  providing I was on horseback.  People on foot were not welcome.  At least they shrugged when they told me the news, like they didn't understand it either.

FYI, if you come to my house, you'd also better be on horseback.
I actually like this little painting...more now that I know that it was painted under duress.

Yes, I wear a duress when I execute most of my paintings. They make me feel puretty.

That sounds like horse nonsense to me.
Nice sketch.

Have you tired using more Violet grays to help pull the background back?

If your into it try mixing a few Violet/grays and Blues in the same values as the Greens and see if this helps push the foreground forward.

I haven't pre-mixed for my landscapes yet, but when doing this painting, I really felt that I would have benefitted from such a set-up. With light changes happening so frequently, I think the palette you use, Jeff, would have really come in handy!
