Salmagundi Club Annual Non-Member Show

My painting, Lael's Promise, is on display as part of the Salmagundi Club's Annual Non-Member Juried Show. If you are in the area, please stop in and show your support for the artists in the show, and for this great art institution. The Salmagundi Club is located at 47 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, and the gallery is open from 1:00 to 5:00 PM daily.

Hey Matthew,

Great work, I love it. Great job on the dappled light. Hope you don't mind me asking, but what palette of colors are using?

Best Jason

I guess I deserve that, considering all of my palette posts! I'm still trying to find a palette with which I'm comfortable. This had a very basic beginning: cad. lemon, cad. yellow pale, cad. yellow, cad. orange, yellow ochre, cad. red, alizarin crimson, burnt sienna, burnt umber, cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, viridian, blue ochre, black Roman earth, and flake white. I used lot of Vasari paints, and ended up adding in a few more of their pigments, especially bice, jasper, and capucine deep.

Congratulations! That is a beautiful work. I love the dappled light and how it takes my eye around the canvas, but always back to the focal point.

Congratulations on the outstanding painting AND for having it accepted into such a competitive and well-regarded show.

Great job. I hope the exhibit leads to new contacts and opportunities for you.

Keep painting!

GrumpyViking

p.s. I may not be who I used to be, but I am who you think I am.

GrumpyViking-

Thank you. Your lessons are still a part of all my paintings, and my thoughts on art. I think of you often, and hope you're well.

Keep painting!? I think that was your advice to me from day one... I've got many yards of canvas to go...

Best-

Matt

Thank you for remembering me. I am happy to see (even if it is from a distance) that you are finally realizing some of your vast potential in both your painting and in your writing, thanks in large part, to this wonderful blog.

Keep up the good work.

And thank you for the nickname you gave me. I wasn't sure if you would remember it. It took many years, but I finally got around to using it.

As always, I wish you, and your family, love and happiness.
