Kerry Dunn Farley Oil
Congratulations to Kerry Dunn of Philadelphia for winning Best in Show for his painting Farley!

The Reception and Award Ceremony for the 2009 Non-Member Juried Painting and Sculpture Exhibition at New York's Salmagundi Club was held this past Friday night. There was a large turnout for the event, with art lovers and artists traveling in to the City from many surrounding states to see the varied creations on display.

In all, 124 pieces were selected for the exhibit, chosen from 465 submissions. The artwork included abstract, figurative, landscape, animal portrait, and still life, executed in oils, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, wax, marble, wood, and newspaper: truly, the range was surprising in such a small show. I hope that in time, the show grows, so that it will need to be divided according to genre to make several annual shows. I'm sure the judges, who had to choose from such a disparate pool of submissions, might like that as well!

Below is the list of the award winners in this year's show. My apologies to any artist whom I may have omitted. Also, my apologies for the quality of several shots, but I do hope they give an indication of the works presented.

Great selction of images.
I was one of the artists selected for the show and I must say the quality and diversity of the work was quite impressive. Being somewhat new to these types of shows I just wish there was a way of identifying the artists at the reception so as to make conversations and congratulations easier.
David- i feel the same way. It would have been nice to have had name tags identifying the artists! (Is that cheesy?) There are several people I would have loved to meet, and who were there, but I had no idea who they were at the time. See you next show?
I was one of the award-winners in the non-members show at SG (the pastel 'What Lies Beneath'), and appreciate your posting the images and award winners since I don't thing the Salmagundi Club's website has even done that yet!!! It was wonderful show this year, and so fun to meet the other artists at the awards reception. And I agree about the name tags - yes it's a little cheesy, but at least you could have identified who was who!
As it happens, I'm also a member of Andrea Scheidler's High Street Painters in Brattleboro,VT and we all loved being included in your recent posting on the Putney Painters and the renaissance of realism. Many thanks!
I was thrilled to find your blog about the show--I will look forward to Salmagundi's posting of the show. I was an award winner and attended the reception, and was amazed at the quality of work! I was especially surprised that a few abstract paintings got in (mine included, Market) and although the image has a lot of reflection in it, I thank you very much for posting it. It was hanging at a high spot and may have been difficult to photograph. The experience of the show and the reception is one that I won't ever forget! I think name tags would be terrific--other shows/receptions do that--just written as the artist comes in. Not cheesy! Lots of people want to comment on work and this gives them the opportunity. There were many works there I would have loved to have commented on to the artist--just gorgeous! Hope to be lucky again next year.
