I received an email today with the latest painting by young artist Casey Baugh. He will be having a solo show later this year at Wendt Gallery's new space in New York City, and I'm really looking forward to it. Always a talented artist, his recent work does not disappoint, and is really exceptional.

Casey's show, Évoquer, will take place in December 2010.

Thanks for posting this Matt, Casey is one of my very favourite figurative artists, his work is so incredible. would love to take a workshop with him one day. : )
October has some openings... ;) I checked too...
Casey is very down to earth too. I once emailed him for pointers for self-taught artists, since he mostly is one. He not only emailed me back, but took the time to offer suggestions on books, methods, etc. His final statement to me was, "The bottom line is, keep painting and never be satisfied." Good words from a good artist!
This guy is a great technical painter, but at some point these glossy pics of beautiful young women become a bit gratuitous wouldn't ya say? They almost have a harlequin novel look to me.
I wouldn't say Harlequin Novel, but definitely a "Supermodel on the Runway" look. I like them all the same. His earlier work is different, and I like that too. I expect his work will keep evolving, and he will be doing more paintings that incorporate an entire environment. It could be that these latest paintings have a lot to do with inspiration he received moving to his new studio recently, and possibly the lighting effects in that new space.
Those paintings are great. The background in the first one is beautiful.
I would love to study with him.
His studio is about 45 minutes from me in Framingham MA.
I like these, kind of a modern Loomis think going on.
I thought he moved a few years ago- he was having a new studio built back in Tennessee.
I love it! Casey does it again, Right when we all thought it was so Last year... Copying photos and Bringing flavor back into photo realism.
cant wait to see more!
Really nice, if your into photo realism. I feel you have to leave room for the imagination to play a part when looking at a picture. When it's to technical and not enough story or imagination, it leaves one stranded. Sargent, Mancini and Cecelia are prime examples of not leaving you stranded.
Casey's original of "Luminesce" (winning first place) and two other works by him are in the The Portrait Society of Atlanta's 2010 Spring Juried Exhibition at my gallery, The Gallery in Paper Mill Village, in Marietta, GA. To get up close to these works is truly astonishing. Just to be able to study his values, edges and how he handles his highlights...what an incredible artist he is!!! If you get a chance - come by...
