2010 American Masters Fine Art Exhibition and Sale

Today marked the opening of the third annual American Masters Show and Sale at the historic Salmagundi Club in New York City. The event, which runs through May 16, is curated by Tim Newton, and features the sculptures, paintings, and drawings of nearly four dozen of today's most talented representational artists from across the nation. Additionally, guest of honor Richard Schmid will be exhibiting, and offering for sale, approximately 25 original drawings, many of which are from his recent book, The Landscapes. Proceeds from the sale of the art will benefit the Club's ongoing restoration of the brownstone mansion in which it resides.

Sale of the works begins Friday, May 7th, during the evening's gala at the Club. Attendees receive a ballot booklet with the purchase of their tickets, and during the reception, they are able to indicate their "intent to purchase" a particular artwork by placing a ballot ticket in the corresponding ballot box. Beginning at 7:30 PM, two names are drawn for each piece of art, the first person winning the right to purchase the piece, or decline it, allowing the second person to buy the work. The process will repeat if necessary. Any works not sold Friday night will be available for immediate purchase beginning Saturday.

Tickets for Friday's reception and sale are $175 per person, or $300 per couple, with some spaces still available. For those who wish to purchase work on Friday, but are unable to be present for the gathering, ballot books are available for $50, presumably with the option of placing tickets in the ballot boxes any time prior to the drawing. For those just wishing to see the art, admission is free to the Salmagundi Club during regular viewing hours.

The Salmagundi Club is located at 47 Fifth Avenue, between 11th and 12th Streets, in New York City, and the gallery is open to the public 7 days a week from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.
