During the recent Portrait Society of America conference, Brooklyn-based artist David Kassan gave an impromptu demonstration using materials from PanPastel, one of the vendors at the event. Click play to watch the artist at work, and see if you can identify the other artists who came by to check out the PanPastel booth.
Nice demo, David. I've used Pan Pastels to do a quick block-in for pastel portraits, and for thumbnails to test color and values. Nice to see you doing a full sketch.
I sometimes use a monocular. It was most helpful in classroom situations where I might not have been as close to the model as I would have liked, but even at closer positions, the monocular helped in understanding what I was seeing (ie. the eye in 3/4 view). Of course, if you are an Impressionist painter, monoculars or binoculars probably won't be part of your arsenal.

Binoculars?
Well, I never...
Does anyone else use binoculars?
