Best in Show - Julio Reyes
The Art Renewal Center has announced the winners of its 2009-2010 Salon, the sixth such annual competition hosted by the online museum. Each year, the number and quality of entries has increased, and with the current Salon, to accommodate the over-1700 entries, a new category, Animals, was added, with plans next year to split the Figurative category into single and multi-figural compositions because of the turnout. After narrowing down the various entries in each of the six divisions, 34 awards were given out, with a total purse of $80,000 dispersed among the winners.

Julio Reyes' painting is good, but in my view Kate Sammons' small portrait is even better.
(Btw, Philippe Faraut published several DVDs on sculpting, didn't he?)
Kate's was really good and she is a fantastic artist, but I have to say that Julio Reyes' painting desererved the top prize.
I think this year, the ARC judges chose very wisely for top prize. "Empire" far surpassed everything else. And I'm not biased because we both are LCAD alumni. I look forward to following his career.
