A painter ought sometimes to consult a sculptor... Alfred Stevens
There are still a few spaces left in Studio Incamminati's summer workshop, Bas-Relief Portraits with Amy Kann. The five-day class will be held June 21st through the 25th, from 9 AM to 4 PM daily, at Incamminati's Philadelphia location. The cost of the class is only $550, plus the price of materials.

Bas-relief, or "low relief," is the marriage of sculpting and drawing skills. Practitioners must not only possess strong draughtsman's skills and a knowledge of 2-D compositional design, but also have an understanding of form, and the ability to portray it in a shallow field. It is an extremely challenging exercise which requires painters and 3-D sculptors alike to expand their skill sets, but in return, strengthens the abilities they have already mastered.

The instructor of the course, multi-award winning sculptor, Amy Kann, is an acknowledged master of bas-relief. Her pieces are widely collected, and are housed in the permanent collections of The Bristish Museum, The Smithsonian, and the Brookgreen Garden Museum, one of America's most important collections of figural sculpture.
