New Milestone, New Contest!

This past week, the Underpaintings blog surpassed 750 followers. In celebration of making it three-quarters of the way to the millennium mark, it is time to hold another contest! The first person who can correctly identify each artist who created the following 35 separate portraits (ie. the ARTIST, not the subject, unless they are one-in-the-same), will receive two awards. The first of these prizes is a gently used copy of the book Overcoming All Obstacles: The Women of the Académie Julian, edited by Gabriel Weisberg and Jane Becker. The second, is a brand new set of Holbein oil paints containing the following 12 colors: crimson lake, vermilion hue, yellow ochre, permanent yellow light, permanent green pale, viridian hue, cobalt blue hue, ultramarine deep, burnt sienna, burnt umber, ivory black, and permanent white (the tubes are 20ml in size, except the white, which is 50ml). Send your answers to matthew@innisfineart.com. Best of luck, and, as always, thank you for supporting this little project of mine.

This is seriously hard. I only knew three. Celia Beau, Alexandra Tyng, and Elizabeth Vigee Lebrun. Who are these talented painters?

What beautiful ladies! But I'm with Morgen - this is seriously hard - I'm afraid that I flunked.

I changed the image in the contest for slot #23. My original portrait choice, upon further study, and a better Swedish translation, didn't fit my theme, so I exchanged the picture for a more appropriate image. Matt (6-24-10 7:10 PM)
