In anticipation of Casey Baugh's upcoming solo show, Wendt Galleries has released images of three new oil paintings by the young artist. Évoquer, the twenty-six year old's first solo show with Wendt Contemporary, will take place this December at the gallery's 41 East 57th Street location in Manhattan. Additional works scheduled to be included in the event can be seen in an earlier post from this year.

Cool. I like his profile picture.
Wow am I looking forward to that show! Thanks for the reminder and images, Matt!
Casey is a both good drafstman and painter. Knowing his age, I was impressed with his skill when I first saw his work 3 or 4 years ago.
What I can not understand is why this turn towards copying photos, warts and all...? Considering his previous achievements, this appear to be a step back, IMO.
And why did he decide to start creating oil paintings that imitate the look of fashion photography? I am sure Casey does have his reasons, but he can do better than this.
I agree with tinoradman.
Casey has great painting chops, not into this at all.
I must also join the chorus of people questioning the new work. I also thought these images look as though they were copied from fashion adverts.
Casey Baugh is an extremely gifted painter, one whose work I have admired and been inspired by...
whatever his reasons for this turn of direction, I do know he is capable of far better than these.
Fabulous technician.. but nothing else. They look like bad glam photos to me. I almost can't believe the direction he has taken lately.. pure lusty fluff.
I am only just now acquainted with his work, and he obviously has tremendous skill, but count me as one who finds these a waste of time and effort for a talented young artist. I had a feeling I would see posts voicing in a similar way.
I find this work boring.
Glad to see so many ready to judge a young artists growth. Let's kill them before they mature.
We artists are free to grow and experiment in our work.
I think this looks like a natural evolution to his previous work. I'll be curious to see what he is doing in 15-20 years.
all this work unfortunately looks a photoshop/corel painter glam photo. everything seems so planned and perfected. i'm sure he's a spectacular draftsman, as indicated by these, but there doesn't seem to be any sort of artistic vision.
wow..really nice blog you have...love the creative way you design your art...
keep it up..

Tough crowd.
I'm not an artist but I am an art collector. I love these pieces and they seem like a step forward from Baugh's early work. I'm only hoping the originals are as stunning in person.
@The
Yes, artists can be almost as tough on other artists as they are on themselves. I think every artist here (and keep in mind that they are coming from a very particular perspective) really admire Casey's ability, and think very highly of him, whether or not these current works appeal to them. He is a great artist and has a fabulous career before him.
I hope you enjoy the show, and please come back and share your impressions of the paintings on view.
I am currently in Casey's workshop this week and have seen these paintings in person in his studio. Please bear in mind that photos never do a painting justice and I admire that he doesn't allow anyone to dictate what he Should paint...IMHO.
haters! he is one of the best
