Thank you to everyone who has shown their support to the Underpaintings blog - it just amazes me that this project of mine, which was begun with quite modest expectations, has now surpassed 1000 followers. I am happy that so many people have found something to interest, and perhaps, inspire them, here in my posts, and I hope to keep providing more of the type of information which brought everyone to these pages in the first place. With so many people relying on me to do a good job, I certainly do feel the pressure, but look forward to trying to meet the challenge.
To mark this new milestone in blog followers, we are having a new contest. The
previous contest, which marked reaching 750 followers, turned out to be extremely challenging, and though this contest might seem daunting with over 40 images to identify, I think it will prove easier. Contestants will be required to identify each painting pictured below by naming the work's title and the artist who created it. Additionally, the winning contestant must identify what all of these paintings have in common. The first person who emails me at
underpaintings@innisfineart.com with the correct answers will receive a
prize package containing materials donated by
Accurasee,
New Traditions Art Panels, and
Rosemary & Co. Quality Artists' Brushes. Best of luck!

Wow, great selection. I can identify many, but I can't wait to find out more about 28 and 32.
Thanks for your great work!
felicitaciones desde Perú!!!
I am fascinated by these choice of works, and with bated breath am awaiting what all these diverse pieces have in common!
Hmmm.. The answer isn't that I own all these paintings..
Love the one with the two women hailing the ferry man
32 looks Russian, but aside from guessing Kramskoi or Repin I'd need to dig up a Russian 19th century book.
Great paintings. I like how one of them make me think Bougereau, but not quite, and maybe not even Gardner either. I always find it fascinating how many artists existed and one time with similar styles.
I think I've managed to get more for this one than the last one but I'm still coming up short. I'm guessing the thing that unites all these paintings is time. Meaning, I predict they were all painted in the later half of the 1800s.
Hopefully Anneke is compiling her list again this time. I'm interested to see who everyone is.
I have names for 1-8, 10-13, 15, 17, 18, 20, 22, 24, 25, 29, 31, 36 and 40.
That's it for now. Will keep looking.
Thanks for a great blog. Congratulations on this milestone.
If I recall correctly, in your last contest, some participants posted names as they compiled them. I enjoyed that discussion too. I don't think I'm going to be able to get all the names in any event. If it is okay, I'm going to post the names I've compiled so far, maybe some of them are correct, maybe they're not. Looking forward to seeing the entire list and learning more about the artists who made these gorgeous works of art.
