PSoA Certificate of Excellence - Rob Rey

Rob Rey  -  Present Company Excluded  -  24 X 18 in.

Rhode Island's Rob Rey is a talented artist whose training in illustration prepared him for the challenges of fine art painting.  Comfortably working in both worlds of commercial and gallery art, Rey has been gaining notice and winning awards in a variety of arenas, including winning the Certificate of Excellence from the Portrait Society of America, and being juried into the prestigious Spectrum 18:  The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art annual, both in just the past few months.  His winning PSoA entry typifies this young man's work;  bold, painterly brushstrokes, combined with elegance and beauty, in a scene which the artist hopes still leaves a sense of mystery for the viewer.

"For me," says Rob Rey, "emotion is what painting is really all about. In Present Company Excluded, the look on the girl's face and her connection with the cat tell a story, and pull you into her moment. Whatever angry generalization she's making, she remembers to exclude the cat for the sake of it's affection."
