200 Russian Painters

Victor Matorin  -  Holy Pious Grand Prince Dmitry Donskoy of Moscow 2004

A few weeks ago, illustrator Dan Dos Santos posted a link to an online album of 200 Russian Painters on the blog, Muddy Colors.  Tonight, I finally had the chance to visit the site, and as Dan said, "the site is a major time sink."  Several of the artists are more familiar in the West, such as Repin, Kramskoy, Levitan, Aivazovsky, Shishkin, and Serov, but there are many more who will probably be new to most visitors, including contemporary painters Oksana Pavlova and Victor Matorin.

The more-than-nine-hundred paintings on the site are a great reminder of how the internet has made artwork more globally accessible.  Have fun browsing!

Ivan Shishkin  -  Among the Open Valley...  1883

Ilya Repin  -  Portrait of Vladimir Stasov 1883

Andrew Belts  -  Separation of Spit(?) and other paintings

Oksana Pavlova  -  Heart of Russia 2004

Ilya Repin  -  Leo Tolstoy Barefoot 1901

Alexander Makovsky  -  Portrait of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna

Ivan Kramskoy  -  Yuri Fyodorovich Samarin  1878

Ivan Aivazovsky  -  The Rainbow 1873

Ivan Kulikov  -  In a Farmhouse

Constantine Kryzhitsky  -  Lake

There are actually 48 albums with in total 29178 images in the gallery.
Albums contain work of Rembrandt, Bouguereau, Rubens, Da Vinci, Zorn, Monet, Manet, Sargent, Gérome,...

It is an impressive collection of reproductions. This must have taken ages to assemble.

Thank you for sharing!

Ivan Aivazovsky - The Rainbow 1873 seems it got inspired from J.M.W.Turner's the slave ship. Andrew Belts painting is really amazing..I stared at it for a few minutes.Thank you for sharing with us!

Russian old masters are amazing. I recently got this book, containing lots of these images:
http://www.labirint.ru/books/174516/
(take a look at the preview pics)
An amazing book, that's the luxury version (like USD 75 ), I actually got the cheap one(only 25 bucks), cause it's the same size (http://www.labirint.ru/books/165950/). Only the paper's offset paper, and not coated, but with this size I figured it won't matter. I still don't know if I should be sorry I didn't get the fancy one. Anyway - the book is AWESOME! It can only be found in russian sites, the shipping is a little pricy, but it's worth it. Love looking at those paintings, thanks to you and Dan for posting these!
