Patricia Watwood: Myths and Individuals

The Forbes Galleries, New York City, February 17- June 9, 2012

The exhibition presents thirty figurative paintings by Patricia Watwood, whose work has been widely exhibited and published. Watwood belongs to the emerging school of Contemporary Classical artists, an international group of young painters who are trained in traditional academic techniques and use representational imagery. Watwood’s subjects are mythology, allegory, and portraiture. Her figures, whether archetypal or personal, convey the beauty and stillness of the visual world, and reflect her striving for meaning and spiritual connection with her subjects and viewers.

About the artist:

Patricia Watwood has exhibited at galleries and institutions worldwide such as Hirschl & Adler in NYC, Galerie Albert Benamou in Paris, and John Pence in San Francisco. Museum shows include the Saint Louis University, Oglethorpe, Arnot, Joseloff, Bruce, and Dahesh. Watwood’s style is Contemporary Classicism, which combines classical painting methods with the language of representation. She is a graduate of New York Academy of Art, and trained at the Water Street Atelier.

This is an awesomely beautiful--and philosophically perceptive--painting. I rarely see anything new quite so good in so many ways. Kudos and applause.
