Portraitist Brian Neher has recently organized a free online art contest open worldwide to representational painters. Submissions are being accepted now through March 31st, with the actual contest beginning February 6th, and running bi-weekly until April 2nd. To the grand prize winner, chosen by popular vote, will go a large selection of prizes (listed below), generously donated by by some of today's top and most respected artists and art supply companies.
Participants may submit up to two entires (either JPEG or TIFF format), of works painted in a "wet" medium; ie. oils, acrylics, watercolor, etc.. The paintings must be representational, and can be of the figure, landscape, animals, or still life. One exception is that, for this contest, no nudes will be considered for the jury process, so please refrain from submitting such images. Also, images which were submitted to Neher's previous "You Be the Judge" contest are not eligible for consideration in this current competition.
For more information, please visit Brian Neher's blog which list the full rules and regulations for the event. Best of luck to all those who enter!
This contest is part of Neher's goals to help fellow artists in their growth and development. The motto of the event is "Educate, Inspire, Equip,"and it is Neher's hope that the items included in the grand prize will provide the informed and motivated artist with the supplies needed to bring to fruition their creative ideas.

Well that's just great, you mean to tell me I can't submit my 10 foot tall nude self portrait of myself as Spartacus.
I thought you would have learned by now, after all of those restraining orders, that NO ONE wants to receive any more of your nude self-portraits randomly in their inboxes.
Hahaha, I thought those orders were more guidelines than anything. Are you also going to tell me I can't keep calling people and breath heavily into the receiver without saying anything.
Honest question: Is it distasteful, or taboo, for a professional artist to enter such contests?
Pfft, I am entering it. I love free stuff. I would probably still enter it if the main prize was a coupon for Taco Bell.
Judging by the past entries, and the prizes offered, the competition is geared towards amateur artists. And that makes me apprehensive. There are artists that I really admire who never seem to enter competitions, and they could surely win, so why not?
A lot of people simply refuse to enter competitions because they either do not care, they feel that there are too many politics involved,or they are too advanced in their career (for example if Yugi Wang entered and for some reason lost, it would be a WTF moment) I figure if you are an artist at the beginning of your career (20's to early 30's) its a good time to keep promoting yourself and I'll be damned if I don't like prize money. However, I don't enter local competitions as it would be similar to if I signed up for a kids karate tournament (no jokes how I would still lose)
That was amazing thanks for sharing such a great things..
