I happen to like Kirillov's work a lot, but just because I or you like it, doesn't mean it should do well in this or any competition. So if you and I were judges in a competition, he might do well, and then other people would shout that Kirillov's work isn't as good as that of Artist X, and that the competition is stupid.

If you are looking for a competition without any subjective opinion, you are deluded. What you are saying about Kirillov's work, and that of the artists who have made it into the finals, boils down to your own personal opinion. The judges have theirs; you have yours. There is only so much agreement among people about individual works of art. Get over it, or create your own competition where you can reward the works you like.

I love seeing my father's early work, the lighting in this one is perfect ,I'm going to ask him about how he makes this effect and He ,usually when asked a painting question,starts out by saying Oh it s easy ,you just ............................ here let me show you and then you just get it because he explains it in simple terms and then when he sees you get it ,then he hands you the brush , some times he will show me how to make major changes in a piece by using the sahran wrap method in order to preserve the under painting so I am anxious and inspired to show this image to dad he will like it so much and I will learn some things too ,thanks for posing this awesome work of his

Another Bouguereau, "Fishing for Frogs" 1882, sold on May 15, 2012 for $1,762,500. It was an auction house record for Heritage Auctions. I would like to think that museums might rush out to purchase some before the prices rise beyond their ability to afford the works, but chances are, curators are now looking at the Bouguereaus in the basements and are thinking about selling them while the market is hot, so they can buy "important works" like "excrement in a can."

We, as representational artists have a right to like and dislike, but with respect. If this new attack on each other is any indication of the direction of modern realism, we will be phased out by the modernist crap again! There is a definite divide between people that paint from life and the use of photography. I know for a fact that marvin paints from life all the time and uses photography as a tool. whether you like the finished rendering r the looseness of an artist is a matter of taste. No matter what tool you use, we need to have truthfulness and dignity to what works for us personally and no one has the right to disrespect anyone.
In this composition, I believe the client was very happy and that is who signs the check. Commissioned portraits are very different from gallery work..one is not better than the other. let's all get on that page and we will all be happy and not insulted by our individual creative choices!
